Yoke’s to improve Liberty Lake grocery
Yoke’s Fresh Market expects to spend more than $1 million to improve the former Haggen grocery store it’s taking over in Liberty Lake.
The Spokane-based independent grocery chain said it will spend the next three months rebranding and preparing the site as its 13th regional store. Yoke’s plans to hire the store’s employees beginning in early 2016. The store, which was a Safeway before it was part of a large acquisition by Haggen, is at 1233 N. Liberty Lake Road.
Yoke’s said effective Dec. 8 it acquired the store lease and related assets from an affiliate of Haggen Holdings LLC.
The store opened as a Haggen location in June. Then near the end of August, Bellingham-based Haggen filed for bankruptcy protection and announced multiple store closures, including the Liberty Lake site.
Yoke’s has stores in the Spokane area, in Kellogg and Sandpoint, and in the Tri-Cities.
