Education Notebook: Northwest Christian Jazz Band to host Valentine’s ball

The Northwest Christian Jazz Band is hosting its second annual Valentine’s Dessert Ball and Social at 6 p.m. Friday.

This adult-only, alcohol-free event features music from the school jazz band and Tuxedo Junction Big Band, desserts, a chocolate fountain and coffee. Dress is formal or semi-formal.

The Valentine’s Dessert Ball and Social will be held at the Service Station, 9315 N. Nevada St. Tickets are $25 per person. For more information and tickets go to nwcs.org/news-and- events/valentine- dessert-ball/.

Music students advance

Rogers High School hosted the Spokane Falls and Northeast Music Educators Association’s regional Solo and Ensemble Festival Saturday.

Winners and alternates were chosen for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and Washington Music Educators Association state competition, which will be at Central Washington University on April 24-25.

The state qualifiers are listed by name, followed by their school and the category in which they won.

Freeman students qualify for FBLA conference

Forty-six Freeman High School students competed in a regional Future Business Leaders of America competition at Eastpoint Church on Feb. 4.

Twenty-six Freeman students placed in the top five in their respective competition and qualified for the state conference in Spokane in April.

Placing first were: Moriah Longhurst (business communication), Nathan Longhurst (business math), Helen Forman (creed), Moriah Longhurst and Alma Longhurst (digital design and promotion), Moriah Longhurst and Bethany Williams (digital video production), Bethany Williams (future business leader), Tristan Albrecht (help desk), Erick Flack (introduction to information technology), Jami Pratt (job interview), Shilo Stuart (public speaking 1), Ali Tesch (public speaking 2) and Bethany Williams (word processing).

Placing second were: Riley Langston and Austin Rokus (3D animation), Kayla Figler and Alma Longhurst (desktop publishing), Nathan Longhurst (introduction to business communication), Addy Clark (job interview), Brayden Aller (personal finance) and Kaylee Fuchs (sales presentation).

Placing third were: Desi Thosath (business law and introduction to business communication) and Nick Franz, Kaylee Fuchs and Heidi Hohmann (business presentation).

Placing fourth were: Tristan Albrecht (desktop publishing), Nick Franz (business calculations), Bradley Williams (help desk), Nathan Longhurst (introduction to information technology) and Bobby Landoe, Odie Landoe and Tyler Waite (management decision making).

Placing fifth were: Ben Mitchell and Shenoa Rush (business presentation), Brayden Aller, Addy Clark and Megan Paternoster (management decision making) and Bobby Landoe, Odie Landoe and Tyler Waite (marketing).

The state conference will be held in Spokane during the third week of April.
