In brief: No. 1 Kentucky rolls to 26-0 for best start

College men: Devin Booker had 18 points and seven rebounds as No. 1 Kentucky picked up its defense in the second half and extended the best start in school history Tuesday night with a 66-48 victory over Tennessee at Knoxville, Tennessee.

Kentucky is 26-0 for the first time, though the Wildcats finished the 1953-54 season with a 25-0 mark. It also matches the best start for a team coached by John Calipari, who won his first 26 games at Massachusetts in 1995-96 and was 26-0 at Memphis in 2007-08.

Andrew Harrison scored 14 points and Trey Lyles added 10 for Kentucky (13-0 SEC). Kevin Punter scored 14 and Josh Richardson had 10 for Tennessee (14-11, 6-7).

Grant leads Irish: Jerian Grant had 24 points and 10 assists to pace No. 10 Notre Dame (23-4, 11-3 ACC) to an 88-75 win over Wake Forest (12-15, 4-10).

Shockers dump Salukis: Shaquille Morris scored a career-high 17 points to lead No. 13 Wichita State (25-3, 14-1 Missouri Valley) to an 84-62 over Southern Illinois (10-18, 3-12) at Carbondale, Illinois.

Sooners rally to beat Longhorns: Jordan Woodard scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, and No. 17 Oklahoma (18-8, 9-5 Big 12) rallied for a 71-69 win over Texas (17-9, 6-7) at Norman, Oklahoma.

The Sooners trailed by seven with 6:33 to play.

No. 22 Bears bounce Red Raiders: Taurean Prince scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half to lead No. 20 Baylor (19-7, 7-6 Big 12) past Texas Tech (12-15, 2-12) 54-49 at Lubbock, Texas,

No. 25 VCU routs Saint Louis: Treveon Graham scored 16 points and No. 25 VCU (20-6, 10-3 Atlantic 10) used a 23-5 run spanning halftime to take command and beat Saint Louis (10-16, 2-11) 74-54 at Richmond, Virginia.

Seton Hall suspends top scorer: Seton Hall has suspended leading scorer Sterling Gibbs for two games for delivering a forearm to the face of Villanova’s Ryan Arcidiacono in the second half of their Big East Conference game in Philadelphia on Monday night.

Ovechkin’s 37th goal, assist lifts Capitals

NHL: Alexander Ovechkin picked up his NHL-leading 37th goal and assisted on Joel Ward’s winner with just over four minutes remaining to lift Washington to a testy 3-1 win over host Pittsburgh.

Ovechkin beat Marc-Andre Fleury on a breakaway in the first period.

Nashville wins sixth straight: Pekka Rinne made a season-high 42 saves, and host Nashville extended its winning streak to a season-high six straight games by beating San Jose 5-1.

The Predators padded their lead atop the standings to 84 points, six ahead of Montreal.

Benn’s hat trick sparks Stars: Jamie Benn had his first career hat trick and Kari Lehtonen was stingy in net again for Dallas in 4-1 win over host St. Louis.

Patrik Berglund spoiled Lehtonen’s bid for a second straight shutout with 7:30 remaining. Lehtonen’s scoreless streak was 1:45:48.

Calvert hits twice for Columbus: Matt Calvert scored two goals, including the winner midway through the third period, to lift visiting Columbus over Philadelphia 5-2.

Johnson sharp in goal for Islanders: Backup Chad Johnson made 37 saves and four players scored to lead the New York Islanders to a 4-1 victory over Carolina at Charlotte, North Carolina.

Stewart scores 26 In No. 1 UConn’s win

College women: Breanna Stewart tied her season high with 26 points and UConn (25-1, 14-0 American Athletic Conference) won its first game since returning to the No. 1 spot in the AP poll, routing Houston (6-20, 1-13) 85-26 at Hartford, Connecticut.

Zahui B. scores 39 in upset: Amanda Zahui B. scored a career-high 39 points and grabbed a conference-record 29 rebounds as Minnesota (21-6, 10-5 Big 10) upset No. 13 Iowa (21-5, 12-3) 93-80 at Minneapolis.

Borrego will keep job remainder of season

NBA: Orlando Magic interim coach James Borrego will remain in that post at least through the end of the season.

In addition, the team announced that it has added Igor Kokoskov as an assistant coach.

Borrego took over after Jacque Vaughn was fired earlier this month following a 15-37 start to his third season. Borrego has gone 2-2 since taking over.

Bosch sentenced to four years in prison

Baseball: The former owner of the South Florida clinic that supplied performance-enhancing substances to Major League Baseball players and other athletes has been sentenced to four years in federal prison.

U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles imposed the sentence on Anthony Bosch, who was seeking a more lenient term because of his cooperation in the investigation. Prosecutors said Bosch could still get his sentence reduced through further cooperation.

Bosch pleaded guilty in October to conspiracy to distribute testosterone to athletes from the now-closed Biogenesis of America clinic in Coral Gables. One customer was New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

Surveillance video shown to jurors

NFL: Jurors in the murder trial of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez were shown surveillance video of him dismantling his phone outside a police station a day after the killing and making calls on his lawyer’s phone.

Hernandez is accused in the June 17, 2013, killing of Odin Lloyd, who was dating his fiancee’s sister. Lloyd’s body was found in an industrial park not far from Hernandez’s home in North Attleborough.

Cavani’s goal gives PSG tie with Chelsea

Soccer: Edinson Cavani scored on a 54th-minute header, boosting Paris Saint-Germain into a 1-1 tie with Chelsea as the Champions League resumed after a two-month break.

In the night’s other game, Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso was ejected from his 100th Champions League game, a 0-0 tie against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Edmonton skaters play longest game

Hockey: A group of sore, exhausted but happy players in the Edmonton area have set an unofficial record for the world’s longest hockey game.

About 40 skaters played for 250 straight hours through a mix of weather and injuries at a rink outside the city to establish the mark Monday afternoon.

The players raised more than $800,000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
