Eagle, Vandal share Big Sky weekly women’s basketball honor

Eastern Washington and Idaho seniors shared the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week award in women’s basketball.

 Melissa Williams of Eastern had double-doubles in home wins over Southern Utah and Northern Arizona, averaging 14.5 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the field. She hit 31 against NAU.

Stacey Barr of Idaho averaged 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and one assist in a home sweep against the same two teams. She scored 28 against NAU.

Barr is the first Vandal to earn the weekly honor since Idaho returned to the Big Sky this season.

Shock sign Taylor

The Spokane Shock have been assigned defensive lineman Terrance Taylor to the 2015 roster.

The 6-foot, 320-pounder rejoins the Shock for his fifth Arena Football League season.

In 2014 with Spokane, Taylor had 19.5 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.

Junior hockey

Castlegar scored two goals less than five minutes apart midway in the third period to overcome a one-goal deficit and defeat the Spokane Braves 2-1 at Eagles Ice-A-Rena on Monday night to take a 2-1 lead in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League divisional semifinal.

Lance Noomen, from Emilio Trujillo and Keith Anderson, scored with 2:23 left in the second period for the Braves.

Men’s golf

Idaho opened the season finishing ninth in the 24-team Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Springs, California.

 Sophomore Jared du Toit shot 1-under 71 Monday and led the Vandals with a 1-over 217, which tied for 10th at the lengthy Classic Golf Club.

Idaho compiled a team score of 5-over 889, 34 shots behind winner Texas Christian.

Women’s golf

Washington State’s lowest round of the tournament, a 1-over 289, earned the Cougars a tie for 13th in the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Arizona.

Freshman Alivia Brown, who strung together three birdies in the final 10 holes, finished at 1-under 215 and tied for 10th place to lead the Cougars.
