Rose to have surgery on torn meniscus

NBA: Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will have surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee.

The team says Rose reported the knee pain on Tuesday, and an exam and MRI confirmed the injury.

Rose has been dogged by injuries for the past three seasons.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Game 1 of the 2012 playoffs against Philadelphia. The 2011 NBA MVP missed the entire next season, then played in only 10 games last season before a right knee injury shelved him for the rest of the season.

The Bulls say a timetable for his return will be determined after the surgery.

Curry, Thompson lead Warriors: Stephen Curry returned from a one-game absence to lead all scorers with 32, Klay Thompson added 17 more and visiting Golden State defeated Washington 114-107.

Curry missed Sunday’s loss at Indiana with a sore right foot and played nearly 34 minutes, hitting 11 of 18 field-goal attempts, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

Love unleashes 3-pointers: Kevin Love tied a career-best with eight 3-pointers for 24 points and LeBron James added 19 points and 11 assists as visiting Cleveland rallied in the second half for a 102-93 win over Detroit.

James broke Scottie Pippen’s NBA record for career assists by a forward when he found Love for an open 3-pointer,

Pippen had held the top mark of 6,135 since taking it from John Havlicek in 2004.

Thunder streak reaches seven: Russell Westbrook had 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, and host Oklahoma City beat Indiana 105-92 for its seventh straight win.

The victory was Dallas’ third straight, its longest winning streak since early January, and pulled the Mavericks within one game of first-place Houston in the Southwest Division.

Bruins are 1-6-2 in their past nine games.

Hayes connects for Rangers: Kevin Hayes broke a scoreless tie 3:00 into the third period and Cam Talbot made 21 saves as the New York Rangers defeated visiting Calgary 2-1.

Faulk powers Hurricanes: Justin Faulk had a goal and an assist in the 500th NHL game for Carolina goalie Cam Ward as the Hurricanes defeated Philadelphia 4-1 at Raleigh, North Carolina.

In the other first-leg, second-round match, Juventus beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Turin, Italy.

Americans earn silver and bronze

Miscellany: Charlotte Kalla gave host Sweden its first gold medal of the Nordic skiing world championships by winning the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle race, while American teammates Jessie Diggins and Caitlin Gregg surprisingly took silver and bronze at Falun, Sweden.

Kalla, who won Olympic gold in the discipline in 2010, dominated from the start and won by a massive 41 seconds, finishing in 25 minutes, 8.8 seconds.
