In brief: Free fishing seminars scheduled for local anglers

Anglers can pick up useful local information on fishing techniques at free seminars scheduled this month in the Inland Northwest.

Six bass and walleye seminars are scheduled on Saturday during the February Fishing Frenzy at Spokane Valley Marine, 7915 E. Sprague. The presentations will be made by area anglers as well as Bassmaster pro John Murray.

The one-day event features prize giveaways and seminars, including:

• 9 a.m. – Bass fishing with David Slater.

• 9:45 a.m. – Walleye fishing with Greg Koch.

• 10:30 a.m. – Bass fishing with Tyler Brinks.

• Noon – Free pizza lunch.

• 1:30 p.m. – Bass pro fishing with John Murray.

• 2:45 p.m. – Lowrance electronics with Mike Pentony.

A six-week series of free localized fishing seminars begins next week sponsored by Mark’s Marine in Hayden.

All of the seminars, as follows, are set for Thursdays starting at 6:30 p.m. at 14355 N. Government Way:

• March 5 – Bass fishing with Tony McCalmant and Jim Grassi.

• March 12 – Walleye fishing with Greg Koch of Spokane Walleye Club.

• March 19 – Salmon fishing on Lake Coeur d’Alene with Fins and Feathers Sport Shop staff.

• March 26 – Pike fishing with Brock Morrow.

• April 2 – Lake Roosevelt trout fishing with Benita Galland and Lake Pend Oreille rainbow fishing with Roger Blackstone.

• April 9 – Lowrance electronics with Mike Pentony

Long-range shooting starts

The Northwest Precision Steel Series Challenge long-distance shooting event kicks off Saturday on a four-event series with hunting and tactical divisions at the Rock Lake Rifle Range, 2356 Glorfield Rd., St. John, Washington

Tactical competitors engage targets at distances of 175-1,250 yards in seven stations. Hunting and youth shooters do five stations at 150 to 600 yards.

Trout Unlimited banquet set
