WCC men’s basketball: Record night BYU’s

Tyler Haws scored 21 points in passing Jimmer Fredette as BYU’s all-time leading scorer and leading the Cougars to an 82-69 victory over host Portland on Thursday night.

Haws now has 2,614 points, eclipsing Fredette’s 2,599. Haws also reached double figures for the 117th time, tying Danny Ainge for the most in school history.

Skyler Halford added 19 points and Kyle Collinsworth had 15 points and 11 assists for the Cougars (22-8, 12-5).

Kevin Bailey scored 18 points for the Pilots (16-13, 7-10) before fouling out with 2:18 left. Bryce Pressley added 16 points.

Saint Mary’s 84, San Francisco 53: Garrett Jackson went 10 for 13, with 4 of 5 from 3-point range and a career-high 26 points as the visiting Gaels routed the Dons.

Brad Waldow and Kerry Carter added 18 points each. Waldow grabbed seven rebounds while Carter added six boards and five assists for Saint Mary’s (21-7, 13-4 West Coast), which never trailed and led by as many as 22 in the first half.

Tim Derksen led San Francisco (12-17, 6-11) with 12 points and Kruize Pinkins grabbed 10 rebounds.

Pacific 64, Santa Clara 57: The Tigers had four players reach double-figure scoring and used the free throw line to beat the host Broncos.

Eric Thompson and Ray Bowles each scored 11 points to lead Pacific (12-17, 4-13), which attempted 30 free throws to just eight for Santa Clara. T.J. Wallace and Gabriel Aguirre each added another 10 points.

Jared Brownridge scored 18 points to lead Santa Clara (12-17, 6-11).
