Tinkle propels Gonzaga women
Elle Tinkle led five players in double figures with 17 points and added six rebounds and four steals as the Gonzaga women extended their winning streak to six games with a 78-70 West Coast Conference victory over Santa Clara on Saturday in Santa Clara, California.
GU’s Keani Albanez added 15 points, Sunny Greinacher had 14 and Emma Wolfram and Georgia Stirton each chipped in 10.
Gonzaga led 31-14 with 6 minutes left in the first half, but the Broncos went on a 12-0 run and kept the score close the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs (12-4, 5-0) shot 50 percent (24 of 48) from the field and made 26 of 32 free throws.
The win was GU’s 18th straight over the Broncos dating to 2006.
Santa Clara’s Nici Gilday, the WCC’s leading scorer, tallied a game-high 21 points. Morgan McGwire added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Broncos (6-9, 1-5).
The Bulldogs return home to take on Pepperdine on Thursday and Loyola Marymount on Saturday before taking off on a three-game road trip.
Wenatchee Valley 68, CC Spokane 40: Lacie Kamper scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the Knights (10-4, 1-0) raced past the ice-cold Sasquatch (11-6, 0-1) in a Northwest Athletic Conference opener in Wenatchee.
CCS managed just 12 first-half points. The Sasquatch made 4 of 27 shots from the floor and missed all 12 of their 3-pointers in the half.
CCS’s Khadija Neumeyer finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The win was Wenatchee Valley’s fifth straight.
CCS plays Treasure Valley at Spokane Falls Community College on Friday.
North Idaho 76, Snow 74: The Cardinals (13-6, 2-3) topped the Badgers (15-3, 3-2) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Ephraim, Utah.
The win was NIC’s fourth in its last five games.
The Cardinals take on SWAC foe Southern Idaho Saturday in Coeur d’Alene.
Men
Wentachee Valley 85, CC Spokane 84: Brady Widner scored 21 points and Austin Chandler added 20 as the Knights (12-4, 1-0) edged the Sasquatch (10-6, 0-1) in a Northwest Athletic Conference opener in Wenatchee.
Widner made 8 of 10 shots and Chandler made 8 of 11 and also pulled down nine rebounds.
CCS’s Dean Richey tossed in a game-high 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting.
Wenatchee Valley made all eight of its second-half free throws to help fend off a Sasquatch charge.
CCS plays Treasure Valley at Spokane Falls Community College on Friday.
Snow 72, North Idaho 67: Walter Wright hit 10 of 20 shots, including 5 of 10 3-pointers, and finished with 34 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead the Badgers (14-6, 3-2) to a come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals (14-4, 2-3) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Ephraim, Utah.
Snow trailed by seven at the break, but outscored NIC 41-28 in the second half.
Austin Pope led four Cardinals in double figures with 20 points and he pulled down 10 rebounds.
