That’s News to you answers

Here are the answers to this week’s newspaper quiz:

1. B. Less than a month after the Cold War foes agreed to end their enmity, the Commerce and Treasury departments unveiled new rules Thursday permitting U.S. citizens to visit Cuba without special permits. Most U.S. travelers still will be required to go on supervised group trips, but now virtually any U.S. company or organization can offer such trips without the paperwork and inspections that discouraged past expansion of travel to Cuba.

2. E. It’s the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks.

3. B. The department sells about 330,000 resident hunting and fishing licenses annually, with sales peaking during years with high steelhead returns or forecasts for good deer and elk seasons.

4. E. Glen Campbell, who is best known for his long career in country music. His biggest hits include “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Gentle on My Mind,” “Galveston,” “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Try a Little Kindness” and “Wichita Lineman.”

5. C. A tax issue with the Spokane County Assessor’s Office has the Spokane Gun Club in Greenacres concerned that it could be forced into bankruptcy. The county has allowed part of the club’s property to be classified as farm or agricultural land for years, which qualifies the club for property tax relief. But this year, in its assessments that occur once every seven years, county appraisers said that land no longer met the legal threshold for a tax break because no crops were being grown on the land. The club used to lease the land to a farmer who grew grazing grass for animals on the contested acreage, but that lease ended some years ago. As a result, the club was ordered this year to resume paying property taxes on the disputed acreage and pay back taxes for the past few years.
