American Pharoah to race in Haskell Invitational

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah will make his next start at the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey, on Aug. 2. Owner Ahmed Zayat told The Associated Press in a text message that his horse would make his first start since his dazzling Belmont win at the New Jersey shore track. ESPN.com was the first to report the story. The Haskell is a 1 1/8 mile event for 3-year-olds and it will give Zayat of Teaneck a chance to race the bay colt in his home state. The race also has been good to trainer Bob Baffert, who has won the track’s biggest race seven times. – Associated Press
