NBA notebook: Marc Gasol confirms new 5-year contract with Memphis

Ap

NBA center Marc Gasol has confirmed that he will sign a new five-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 30-year-old free agent told Spanish media he will stay at Memphis, as the AP reported on Monday.

The deal is expected to be worth more than $100 million.

Marc Gasol adds that he won’t play for Spain alongside brother Pau Gasol in the upcoming European championships from Sept. 5-20, saying “I have to devote myself and listen to the people of Memphis.”

Celtics acquire Lee

A person with knowledge of the deal says the Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade former All-Star forward David Lee to the Boston Celtics for Gerald Wallace.

Lee is due about $15.4 million in the final year of his contract.

League fines Cuban

The NBA has fined Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban for commenting about the team’s agreements with DeAndre Jordan and Wes Matthews during the league’s free-agent moratorium.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the penalty, which ESPN.com reported Tuesday was for $25,000.

Teams can agree to deals with players during the moratorium, which lasts from July 1-8, but can’t comment specifically until deals can be signed on July 9. They can only say they plan to sign the players once the moratorium is lifted.

In other Mavericks news, Charlie Villanueva will return for a second season in Dallas after earning a reserve role as a 3-point threat and making the playoffs for the first time in his 10-year career.

He reportedly will get a one-year contract for the veteran minimum of $1.5 million.

T-wolves retain Garnett

Kevin Garnett is returning for season No. 21.

The AP has learned that Garnett has agreed to terms on a two-year contract to remain in Minnesota. Garnett starred in Minnesota for the first 12 years of his career before being traded to Boston in 2007. He returned last February in a trade deadline deal with the Brooklyn Nets and turned 39 in May.

Wizards land Anderson

Free-agent shooting guard Alan Anderson has agreed to a $4 million, one-year contract with the Washington Wizards.

The 6-foot-6 Anderson played the past two years with the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 7.4 points and 2.8 rebounds last season.
