KROLL, Janyce Joye (Welp) 2/17/39 - 7/3/2015 Jan was born and raised in Estherville, Iowa.

Her parents were Clarence and Loretta Welp (nee Lynch).

Her brother, Larry Welp, was born in 1948.

Jan graduated from the University of Iowa in 1961, with a B.A.

in English Literature.

She taught school at Markham Jr. High in Watts, CA in the 1960s.

She married Charles Kroll (Chuck) September of 1964 in Malibu, CA.

They later lived in Hermosa Beach, Sherman Oaks, Sepulveda, and Northridge, CA.

Her first child, Gregory, was born in 1965, (deceased).

Her second child, Geoffrey, was born in 1967, followed by a third child, Gerrod, in 1970.

Jan then took time off of work to nurture and raise her boys.

In 1977, the family moved to Spokane, WA.

Jan achieved her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Services in 1981 from Ft. Wright College.

In the ‘80s and ‘90s, Jan worked as a maternity counselor for Catholic Family Charities, District 81 as a school counselor, Spokane County Health District as a social worker, as well as counseling positions at YWCA, Transitional Living Center, and other private firms.

In 2002, she became a grandmother, and helped nurture and raise Nicholas, her grandson by her son Gerrod.

Jan finally retired in 2005.

Jan’s favorite hobbies included reading, gardening, and caring for (and playing with) her kitties.

Jan was a role model for many young people in the community; she was involved with many outreach centers and support programs, and was a champion for the underdog.

She will be remembered for her lovely smile, her charm, and the many wonderful personal and professional relationships she developed over the years.

As Jan dearly loved animals, especially her feline friends, the family asks that donations be made to S.C.R.A.P.S., 6815 E. Trent Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99212 (or your preferred local animal shelter / sanctuary) in her memory, in lieu of flowers.

Jan’s Funeral Mass will be Celebrated July 16th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church (located at 4515 N. Alberta, Spokane - on Alberta St., just south of Wellesley Ave.), with visitation beginning at 9:00am.

All are invited, especially those that knew this wonderful and inspiring woman.

There will be a reception immediately following the funeral, and the family hopes all can attend.

Committal will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Spokane, WA.
