STA has plenty of riders
Dean Pyle (July 12) clearly does not ride Spokane Transit Authority buses, as he is incorrect when he says that the buses are never loaded with more than six fare-paying passengers.
I ride the bus to and from work five days a week, and there are almost always more than six riders including myself. In fact, that bus is often full enough that I have to stand for all or a portion of the ride.
There are a few times when the bus may have six or fewer individuals on it, as Pyle asserted, but that is generally in the late evenings or when the bus is nearing the end of the route. I would like to suggest Pyle ride a bus sometime to see for himself. Even if there are only six or less fare-paying passengers on the bus, that is still up to six cars that are not on the road using gas and spewing emissions. Finally, STA does use smaller buses when warranted and possible.
A great city needs great public transportation. I believe STA is providing just that. I would encourage all of my fellow citizens to support STA as they move forward.
