Signed Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota agreed to a contract with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday. Mariota, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, is expected to be an immediate starter for the Titans, who went 2-14 last season. He was the last first-round draft pick to sign a contract.

Litigated A company partly owned by Tony Romo is suing the NFL over a canceled fantasy football event that was to involve the Dallas quarterback and other star players in Las Vegas. The Fan Expo LLC filed a $1 million lawsuit alleging that the league intimidated players with threats of fines and suspensions for associating with what the NFL called a gambling-related event.

Cancelled A friendly between Brazil and Argentina planned in the United States on Sept. 5 has been canceled as part of the fallout from the investigation into alleged corruption involving FIFA. The two Argentine businessmen who own Full Play, the sports marketing company which had the rights for the friendly, remain under house arrest in Argentina after being indicted in May by the U.S. Justice Department.

Scheduled The U.S. women’s national team added a pair of September matches against Australia to its World Cup victory tour. The team will face the Matildas on Sept. 17 at Ford Field in Detroit before a rematch on Sept. 20 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

• Construction of the new National Stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will begin in January or February. The government will choose a new design and builder through an international competition after the old plan was scrapped as costs reached $2 billion.

Named Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis will be the vice chairman of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee this season and lead the selection of the field of 68 for the 2016-17 season.

Allowed The Big Ten granted Purdue forward Jacquil Taylor a medical hardship waiver, restoring his freshman season of eligibility. Taylor was out for much of the season after struggling to overcome nagging leg injuries suffered during his high school career.

Drawn The United States will travel to Uzbekistan for the first time among some tough away trips in the Davis Cup World Group playoffs in September. Winners qualify for the elite 16-nation World Group next year. Among other matchups drawn, 2014 champion Switzerland hosts the Netherlands and 2012 and 2013 champ the Czech Republic goes to India.
