Obituary: Burk, Thelma Virginia

BURK, Thelma Virginia July 28th, 1916 - June 27th, 2015 Thelma was born to Herb and Eva Claus in Waterloo, Iowa.

She married Rodger Burk in 1937 and they were blessed with sixty-six years together.

They had four children, Carol Nelson (Larry), Albuquerque, NM, Jim (Bev), Loon Lake, WA, Tom (Carolyn) and Jack (Elsa), all in Spokane.

In 1953 Mom and Dad were transferred to Spokane for Dad to work on the railroad.

Soon after arriving they found their new church home at Pilgrim Lutheran and remained active members until they were reunited with Jesus.

Mom worked outside the home for a few short years at JC Penney and Kees variety store.

Most of Mom’s life was spent looking after her kids and grand- kids and in later years as a prayer warrior on behalf of friends, strangers, and family.

Mom and Dad enjoyed twenty five years of retirement, and spent a great deal of time helping the older people at church.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Rodger, four sisters, and one brother.

She is survived by one brother, Roger Claus, her four children and spouses, eleven grandchildren, twenty great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A special thanks to Clare Bridge/Brookdale for the wonderful care Mom received the last few years of her life.

A service of celebration will be held Thursday, July 30th, at 10:00am at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W Northwest Blvd, Spokane, WA.

Any memorials may be sent to the Pilgrim Lutheran Building Fund.
