Newman Lake fire out with assist from weather
Wed., July 29, 2015

A small brush fire broke out near the intersection of Starr Road and East Newman Lake Drive on Tuesday afternoon, briefly threatening two homes.
Newman Lake Fire and Rescue was able to quickly extinguish the 3-acre fire with the assistance of the Department of Natural Resources and several water drops from a tanker plane.
The Spokane Valley and Hauser Lake fire departments also sent crews and equipment to help.
The lack of strong winds Tuesday afternoon helped firefighters gain control of the fire quickly, said Newman Lake Fire and Rescue Fire Chief Keith Yamane.
“If it would have been much more, we could have had problems,” Yamane said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
