Grohl’s injury halts Foo Fighters tour

From Wire Reports

Dave Grohl managed to finish a concert with a broken ankle, but he can’t finish the Foo Fighters tour.

The Foo Fighters announced Tuesday that they’re canceling the rest of their European tour after the frontman was injured in a fall onstage in Sweden. Grohl momentarily left to get medical attention, but then managed to finish the show with a bandaged leg. Later, the band tweeted an X-ray of Grohl’s fractured foot.

Grohl had surgery Monday and his recovery timeline is unclear. In a separate statement, Grohl thanked fans for their support and offered apologies, saying it killed him to cancel the shows: “I’m afraid it’s just not physically possible for me at the moment.”

Grohl also recounted the accident and why he got back onstage: “I couldn’t stand the thought of such a perfect night going to waste!”

The band’s canceled dates include in the United Kingdom and Belgium.

Actor hurt diagnosed with cancer

John Hurt said he has been diagnosed with cancer but has no plans to stop working and is “more than optimistic” about his future.

The 75-year-old actor said Tuesday that he was recently diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. He said he is undergoing treatment and is “more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team.”

Hurt’s major roles include gay-rights advocate Quentin Crisp in “The Naked Civil Servant,” an unfortunate astronaut in “Alien” and John Merrick in “The Elephant Man,” for which he was Oscar-nominated. He played wand maker Mr. Ollivander in the “Harry Potter” movies and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II last year.

Evans in driver’s seat on ‘Top Gear’

The BBC said its hit automotive TV show “Top Gear” will return to the airwaves with a new host replacing scandal-tainted Jeremy Clarkson.

The broadcaster said radio and TV personality Chris Evans has signed a three-year deal to lead a new lineup for the show, which has won a huge following with its mix of car tips, driving stunts and jokey banter.

Clarkson was fired in March after he punched a producer during an off-set altercation.

The show’s two other hosts also left.

The incident threatened the future of one of BBC’s most popular shows – and biggest international earners. Evans said Tuesday he was thrilled to be hosting “my favorite program of all time.”
