Newsmakers: Two-time champion Rafael Nadal seeded 10th at Wimbledon

Seeded Two-time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal has been seeded No. 10 for the grass-court Grand Slam, meaning he could face one of the top contenders as early as the fourth round. The tournament starts Monday. Defending champion Novak Djokovic is seeded No. 1, followed by Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, and Kei Nishikori. In the women’s seedings, Serena Williams is No. 1, followed by defending champion Petra Kvitova, Simona Hale p, Maria Sharapova, and Caroline Wozniacki.

Died Former Rice football All-America end James “Froggy” Williams has died at his home in Houston. He was 87. He starred on Rice’s 1949 Southwest Conference football championship squad.

Announced Chicago Little League team Jackie Robinson West announced a lawsuit against the sport’s governing body, accusing it of improperly stripping the young athletes of the national title that made them hometown heroes and nationally known and refusing to provide the information used to make the stunning decision. The team attorney said that he believed some of what Little League International has claimed – that some of the players did not live within local league boundaries. But he added that he thought the team was unfairly singled out for scrutiny because all of its players are black.

• Detroit’s iconic sculpture of the arm and fist of famed boxer Joe Louis is getting an overhaul. The Detroit Institute of Arts conservation staff is leading a project to replace hanging cables, perform minor structural work and clean the surface of the monument.

• The British Open champion at St. Andrews next month will win $1.8 million. The tournament starts on July 16.

Honored Former Georgetown coach John Thompson Jr. has been presented the Court of Honor Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the first time it has been given to one of their own.
