State 1B Girls Hardwood Classic – Day 2 capsules

Crosspoint Academy took advantage of ice-cold Evergreen Lutheran and stayed alive with a 1B consolation victory Friday at the Arena.

The Eagles trailed by just three at halftime, but couldn’t get anything going offensively in the second half. Evergreen Lutheran made 1 of 15 second-half shots, and the Warriors pulled away.

Cailyn Cattell scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Crosspoint Academy. Kailey Bandara and Kalie Nation each added eight and Deseree Doty chipped in nine rebounds and five assists. A 13-2 third-quarter run all but sealed the deal for the Warriors.

Emily Holder carried the load for Evergreen Lutheran. The junior forward scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both team highs. She made 5 of 11 shots and 8 of 11 free throws.

Pateros 44, Mary M. Knight 34

Pateros regrouped after an extremely sluggish third quarter and beat Mary M. Knight in a 1B consolation game.

The Billygoats’ Lorie LeDoux had 15 points, 12 rebounds and six assists and Vanesa Figueroa added 15, including 10 in the first half.

Pateros led by 12 at the break, but saw its lead dwindle to one after Mary M. Knight opened the second half on an 11-0 run. The Billygoats didn’t get on the board in the second half until three minutes remained in the third quarter.

Pateros, however, regrouped in the fourth. The Billygoats pulled down 17 offensive rebounds and forced 17 turnovers.

Jaycee Valley led Mary M. Knight with 10 points.

Annie Brouwer netted 30 points, and Sunnyside Christian beat Republic to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season in the 1B semifinals.

The Knights used an early 8-0 lead to create separation and led 18-7 after the first. They would never surrender that lead, although the Tigers got within one at 41-40 late in the third. SC again answered with a run, as Brouwer twice stole the ball and raced the other way for a layup during an 11-4 spurt. Republic never got closer than five after that.

Kristen Broersma added a double-double for the Knights with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Colton’s defense smothered Neah Bay, and the Wildcats moved within one game of a seventh straight state title with a win over the Red Devils.

Savannah Chadwick sparked Colton in the first half, as she made two 3-pointers and then sank six free throws during a 17-0 run that made it 32-7 early in the second quarter.

The Wildcats made nine 3-pointers, including three by MaryAnn Jacobs, to none for the Red Devils. Colton forced 20 turnovers and held a 44-25 rebounding edge. They also limited NB to 17.5 percent shooting from the field.

Jacobs led Colton with 14 points and six rebounds, while Zoe Moser had four assists to go with 15 points. Faye Chartwell led the Red Devils with 16 points.
