Chuck Barney Tribune News Service

Don’t miss

“Bates Motel”: The frightfully addictive “Psycho” prequel returns for more thrills, chills and mommy issues. As we check in for Season 3, Norma (Vera Farmiga) finally must confront the truth about Norman’s (Freddie Highmore) mental fragility, and she fears the havoc it could wreak. Meanwhile, she’s relying more on her older son, Dylan (Max Thieriot), which, of course, makes Norman jealous. Quick, hide the cutlery. 9 p.m. Monday, A&E.

Other bets

SUNDAY: Jon Stewart hosts a “Night of Too Many Stars.” It’s a laugh-filled special to benefit autism charities. Among the funny people set to appear are Louis CK, Amy Schumer and John Oliver. 8 p.m., Comedy Central.

SUNDAY: Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing”) drops by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” He plays Jake’s (Andy Samberg) absentee dad, who suddenly wants to spend some quality time with his son. But is he up to no good? 8:30 p.m., Fox.

MONDAY: It’s finale time for “The Bachelor,” and Chris Soules has some big decisions to make, such as: Which tabloids does he talk to? And will he sign up for “Dancing With the Stars” or not? 8 p.m., ABC.

MONDAY: Brace yourself for “The Returned.” Based on a very creepy, critically lauded French series, it takes viewers to a small mountain town where people thought to be dead are suddenly reappearing. 10 p.m., A&E.

TUESDAY: You have to love the far-out idea behind this week’s edition of “Face Off.” The remaining contestants are challenged to create alien beauty queens to compete in a Miss Intergalactic pageant. We are so there. 9 p.m., Syfy.

TUESDAY: We continue to savor the final season of “Justified.” Tonight, Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) has an unexpected offer for Markham (Sam Elliott), which, on this show, could mean a bullet to the gut. 10 p.m., FX.

WEDNESDAY: Say it isn’t so! We’ve got only two more Season 1 episodes of “Empire,” the soapy, Cookie-licious hip-hop drama that has taken prime time by storm. Tonight, guest stars Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige get in on the fun. 9 p.m., Fox.

WEDNESDAY: Are you ready to laugh? “Jenny McCarthy’s Dirty Sexy Funny” is a special that has McCarthy hosting a program of sketch comedy and stand-up performances by an all-female roster of comedians. 10:30 p.m., A&E.

THURSDAY: It’s crunchtime on “American Idol.” We finally have our Top 12 finalists, and tonight, they take the stage for the first time in a two-hour special edition. 8 p.m., Fox.

FRIDAY: “Insane Pools: Off the Deep End” has us aching for summer. The latest episode focuses on a couple that has pinched pennies for 10 years to afford a dazzling double pool with a connecting stream. 9 p.m., Animal Planet.

SATURDAY: We hope there’s more to “Wuthering High School” than just a clever title. A modern retelling of Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights,” this film focuses on a Malibu teen girl who becomes irresistibly drawn to a troubled boy. 8 p.m., Lifetime.
