NW Walleye circuit expands fishing waters

Competitive walleye anglers have a longer trail to trek through the region this season.

Walleyes Unlimited Northwest has assembled a new tournament trail that provides a more diverse selection of fisheries.

The 2015 Northwest Walleye Circuit should appeal to a wider range of anglers and make it easier for first-time fishermen to get involved in competitive fishing, said spokesman Darin Green.

“The consolidation of the two existing trails in the Northwest provides an excellent mix of big river and reservoir fishing and we expect some great results,” he said.

The circuit has a new “angler of the year” format and a championship at the end of the season.

“Competition should be fierce,” Green said.

The 2015 schedule includes tourneys at:

• Umatilla, March 28-29. Contact: High desert Marine, (541) 567-8419.

• Potholes Reservoir, May 2-3. Contact: Mar Don Resort, 509) 346-2651.

• Banks Lake, May 16-17. Contact: Big Wally’s, (509) 632-5411.

• Moses Lake Wild Card Open, June 6-7. Contact: Cascade Marina, (509) 765-6718.

• Kettle Falls, June 27-28. Contact: Clyde Reneman, email ctreneman@gmail.com, (509) 732-6679.

Tri Cities Championship, Aug. 8-9

The wild card open at Moses Lake on June 6-7 automatically qualifies the top three finishers for the Aug. 8-9 championship.

Participants must fish a minimum of three events to qualify for the championship and be a member ($60) of Walleyes Unlimited Northwest.

The 2015 angler of the year, a title awarded based on accumulated points from the circuit, will receive free entry into the following year’s events.
