Man burned trying to fight house fire

Cause of fire under investigation

Staff reports
A 45-year-old man suffered burns to his hands and face Monday evening while attempting to put out a fire in a home at 1003 W. Frederick in North Spokane. Spokane Fire Department investigators are trying to determine how the fire started. Neighbors reported smoke coming from the home around 5 p.m. The fire was on the second floor, according to a fire department press release. About two dozen firefighters converged on the home. They determined the fire began in an upstairs bedroom, burning a mattress and furnishings. The man who sustained first- and second-degree burns was visiting the home. He was treated at the scene. Damage was estimated at $4,000.
