Strandness, Fager lead LC to 4A crown

Led by Jordan Strandness and Kyle Fager’s doubles title, the Lewis and Clark boys secured a share of the team title at the State 4A tournament Saturday in Richland.

The state championship was the first for the Greater Spokane League champion Tigers, who scored 17 team points, same as Olympia.

Strandness and Fager dropped the first set in the title match, but rallied back for a 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 win over Eastlake’s Thiago Banderia and Aashray Anand.

The LC duo opened the day with a 6-4, 6-2 semifinal win over Newport’s Payton Namba and Travis Kayahara.

Luke Brittan took sixth place in singles after a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Thomas Jefferson’s Alex Chan. Earlier, Brittan fell 6-1, 6-0 to Redmond’s Adam Guo in the semifinals.

The Central Valley girls tied for 10th and Lewis and Clark and Mead both tied for 16th.

Central Valley’s Kyra Harames fell to Skyview’s Sammi Hampton in the semifinals and then took sixth place after a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Mountain View’s Amila Gogalija.

Pullman’s boys doubles duo of Jacob Weirich and Curtis Jeffrey took fifth place by beating Clarkston’s Colby Savage and Gregory Arthur 6-3, 6-2 in the consolation finals at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.

The Greyhounds took 10th place and Clarkston earned a tie for 14th.

The Clarkston girls tied for eighth place and Cheney tied for 12th.

1B/2B/1A

St. George’s Colin Cremers and Daniel Gimbel took fifth place by beating Connell’s Hunter Clawson and Chess Booker at the Yakima Tennis Center in Yakima.

Lakeside’s Seth Abrams and Brady Smith settled for sixth place after a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Overlake’s Declan Daly and Pranav Harikrishnan.

In boys singles, St. George’s Michael Hamilton took fourth with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win over Cashmere’s Tyler Kert and St. George’s Mark Hay was fifth after beating Coupeville’s Aaron Curtin 6-1, 6-3.

For the girls, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague’s Rosie Melville beat Cascade’s Kellie Kuch 6-0, 6-0 for third place.

Colville’s Darby Fox took fourth place after a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Forest Ridge’s Rachel Zhang.
