4 boats sink in early morning fire at marina

SEATTLE (AP) – Four boats sank and six others were damaged in an early morning fire at a Seattle marina.

The Seattle Times reports that the fire started at about 1 a.m. Monday on Westlake Avenue North. An office structure was also damaged.

Seattle Fire Lt. Sue Stangl says five people who lived on the boats were evacuated as the fire overtook the building.

About 70 firefighters responded to the blaze. They doused it with foam to prevent leaking fuel from spreading the fire to other boats.

Stangl says some boats that were on fire floated away. That can be tricky because they can float to other piers and docks.

Fire officials were on the scene by 6 a.m. to start their investigation into the cause.
