The Slice: The Slice: Reacting to the white stuff

There are at least a dozen possible reactions to waking up and discovering that snow fell overnight.

I’ll fill in the first 11 and let you handle No. 12.

1. Looking out on the scenic stillness, I feel seasonally serene.

2. Oh no, this is going to make driving an absolute pain.

3. This will totally thrill my dog.

4. “Fudge.” (Only you didn’t say “fudge.”)

5. Bike stays in the garage today.

6. Is there enough to make a snowman?

7. This, ladies and gentlemen, is why I live here.

8. Here’s a chance to not wear the proper footwear.

9. Should I call in sick from the chair-lift?

10. Never fails to make me feel 6 years old.

11. Let heaven and nature sing.

12. (Your turn.)

Last Saturday: Yes, it has been a week now. But I liked this Halloween report from Susie Schmidt.

“We had about 30 kids this year. Way more than usual, but it was OK. I had plenty of candy.

“What blew me away was the courtesy of the kids this year. None of them were greedy. Every one of them took just one piece of candy, even though the pieces were small. And every one of them said ‘Thank you’ without being prompted. Of course, I called them back before they got off the porch and told them they had to have more than one piece. A bunch more. None of them said ‘No.’

“Note to future generations: Courtesy pays off.”

Warm-up questions: If you have a late November birthday, does it fall on Thanksgiving this year? If you live in Washington and have exceptionally law-abiding company visiting from out of state, do these individuals ever express an interest in legally partaking of marijuana? If you wore a bathrobe to the grocery store, would you be disappointed if not even one person addressed you as “Dude”? How much of the bread used for communion at Spokane area churches is gluten-free?

Today’s Slice question: If you added up all the back-and-forth trips, who do you suppose has driven the most miles on Interstate 90 over the years?

Though Spokane occasionally has its own air quality issues and it should be noted that some major metros have breathable air, Carol Stobie said one thing big cities have that Spokane doesn’t is smog.
