Whitworth women’s soccer coach resigns

From wire reports
Jael Hagerott has decided to step down after five seasons as the women’s soccer coach at Whitworth University to pursue other career interests, the school announced Monday morning. Hagerott, one of the greatest players in Pirate soccer history, had an overall record of 39-43-16 as head coach, including a 33-32-15 mark in the Northwest Conference. “I am so thankful to have been a part of Whitworth these last five years,” Hagerott said. “It has been a blessing to work with a wonderful group of student-athletes and colleagues. I have decided to step away from collegiate soccer for the time being to pursue other interests. Whitworth is a special place, full of special people, and I am looking forward to cheering on our programs as a fan.” Hagerott served three years as an assistant coach for the Pirates prior to becoming head coach in 2011. As a player Hagerott was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American who finished her Pirate years as Whitworth’s all-time leader in assists (30) and as one of the all-time goal scorers in Pirate history (also 30), despite an injury-plagued career. A 2007 NSCAA Third Team All-American, she was a four-time First Team All-Northwest Conference honoree and was voted as the NWC’s Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman in 2003. A national search for Whitworth next head women’s soccer coach will begin immediately.
