Big second quarter carries Lind-Ritzville/Sprague past Mabton in 2B playoffs

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to erase a 7-0 deficit and beat Mabton 21-7 in the first round of the State 2B playoffs Friday in Ritzville.

The Broncos’ Andrew Witt scored from 3 yards out early in the third to knot the game at 7. Alan Field then returned an interception 21 yards to put LRS ahead 14-7 and Jacob Saetre capped the scoring later in the quarter with a 35-yard touchdown run.

Saetre led LRS in rushing with 72 yards on 16 carries.

The Broncos (11-0) will play in the second round next weekend.

Northwest Christian 34, Warden 18: David Olds threw for 148 yards and three touchdowns and the Crusaders (9-2) topped the Cougars in a State 2B first-round game in Warden.

Two of those touchdowns went to Nathan Sander, who hauled in six passes for 112 yards. Sander also had a 2-yard rushing touchdown.

Ethan Perreiah led the Crusaders’ rushing attack with 180 yards on 24 carries.

Northwest Christian will play in the second round next weekend.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 52, Selkirk 8: Dallas Isaak ran for 264 yards on just 12 carries and scored five touchdowns to guide the Warriors (10-1) past the Rangers (8-3) in the first round of the State 1B playoffs in Coulee City.

Isaak also threw for 130 yards and two touchdown passes to Charles Hunt, who finished with three catches for 102 yards.

Joey Dicksinson scored the Rangers’ lone touchdown on a 3-yard run in the second quarter. Selkirk’s Stephen Avey gained 117 yards on 27 carries.

ACH racked up 447 yards of total offense, compared to 226 for Selkirk.

The Warriors will play the winner of Saturday’s Touchet/Cusick game in the second round next weekend.

Okanogan 52, Davenport 7: Riley Prescott ran for 124 yards and three touchdowns and also had an interception return for a score as the defending State 2B champion Bulldogs routed the Gorillas (7-4) in a State 2B first-round playoff game in Okanogan.

Clay Ashworth added two rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who outscored the Gorillas 35-0 in the second quarter.

Loran Boggs led Davenport with 103 yards on 24 carries. Layne Smith scored the Gorillas’ lone touchdown on a 50-yard run in the first quarter.
