CCS women victors in NWAC soccer championship game

TUKWILA, Wash. – Alysha Overland had a goal and an assist in helping the CC Spokane women’s soccer team claim the Northwest Athletic Conference championship with a 2-0 victory over Highline at Starfire Stadium.

Sarah Melvin scored her 14th goal of the season off an assist from Overland in the 12th minute. Overland scored off an assist from Maison Stults in the 80th. It was Overland’s 29th goal, setting a single-season CCS record.

Emily Busselman made seven saves for CCS (16-2-1), which won its first title since 2006.

The CCS men (13-5-4) lost 4-3 in their title game against Peninsula, which got the game-winning goal from Jose Soto in the 86th minute.

Jonathan Cortez and Kazuki Tateishi scored for the Sasquatch, who also got an own-goal.

CCS won three of four conference championships contested over the weekend after the men’s and women’s cross country teams swept to victories on Saturday.
