Support program for vets

I think most of us can agree that as a country we have not made ourselves proud in the way we have treated veterans. In the Nov. 7 Wall Street Journal, there is an article describing a program, private and separate from the government, called National Intrepid Spirit Center.

It was started by Arnold Fisher, who started the very successful Fisher House program that all of us who have an interest in the veterans’ programs know well. This new program had focused on the brain injuries that are not visible as a lost leg or arm, and have received little or no support from the Veterans Administration.

Currently, there are only three centers open with two more planned, one at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where ground was broken last week. Their success rate has been 90 percent. My hope is that they will receive the support they need to continue the program.
