WSU, NIC women victorious
Freshman Borislava Hristova hit 3 of 4 3-pointers in a 20-point game to lead the Washington State women to a 61-48 non-conference’s women’s basketball victory over Hampton on Monday night in Beasley Coliseum in Pullman.
The Cougars (2-0) hit 11 of 22 3s, with five Cougars hitting from behond the arc, and forced 20 turnovers, led by senior Dawnyelle Awa’s six, in holding off the Lady Pirates (0-2).
WSU saw a 38-23 halftime lead reduced to 12 early in the second half before freshman Alexys Swedlund hit back-to-back 3-pointers to thwart the Lady Pirates. WSU reserves outscored the Hampton reserves 32-12.
NIC wins: North Idaho College dispatched the visiting Whitworth junior varsity 84-60.
College volleyball
Washington State’s McKenna Woodford is the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. Woodford, a 6-foot-4 outside hitter from Chandler, Arizona, averaged 4.14 kills per set on .311 hitting, 1.57 digs per set, 0.71 blocks per set and 4.86 points per set against Cal and Stanford.

The Spokane IFL franchise signed linebacker Pasquale Vacchio (Buffalo State) and defensive back Tyree Robinson (Western Kentucky) to the 2016 roster.
