Tax rules are twisted
I concur with Phil Zammit’s Nov. 23 letter, “Tax rules raise ire.” I, too, have no problems paying taxes to keep the government running.
We just moved here in July, and I could have easily used my Alaska identification to not pay sales tax for everything we bought (a bed, furniture, incidentals, etc.) until we established residency in late September. We paid it without a question. When we went to register our vehicles, what a shock! A travel trailer we bought in Alaska five years ago when we had not a clue we were moving to Washington; we had to pay sales tax and registration totaling $660!
What gives Washington the right to sales tax for something bought in Alaska five years ago? I believe that is taxation without representation. Seems to me that was what the Boston Tea Party was all about.
