People: Will Smith is getting jiggy with music again with Latin band

Will Smith is getting jiggy with music again.

The Grammy-winning rapper and Oscar-nominated actor appears on a remix of Colombian band Bomba Estereo’s song, “Fiesta.” The remix was released digitally on Friday.

The collaboration marks Smith’s return to music since his 2005 album, “Lost and Found.” Smith discovered Bomba Estereo, known for its blend of Latin, tropical and electro sounds, on a recent trip to Colombia. He then asked the group to collaborate.

“When I was told that Will Smith wanted to collaborate on a remix with Bomba, I couldn’t believe it,” band founder and multi-instrumentalist Simon Mejia said in a statement. “This opportunity to work with Will was beyond anything we have dreamed of. … It’s just magic.”

Smith raps in both English and Spanish on the song. He recently shot a music video for the remix with Bomba Estereo.

“Fiesta” is nominated for record of the year at next month’s Latin Grammy Awards. Bomba Estereo’s album, “Amanecer,” is up for best alternative music album.

When the nominees were announced last month, Smith posted a selfie with the quartet on his Facebook page and wrote: “Felicidades to BOMBA ESTEREO on their Latin Grammy Nominations!”

Bomba Estereo also includes singer Liliana Saumet, drummer Andris Zea and multi-instrumentalist Julian Salazar. They formed in 2005 and have performed at major music festivals, including Coachella, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza.

Smith’s hits include “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It,” “Miami,” “Wild Wild West” and 2005’s “Snatch.”

The 16th annual Latin Grammys will air live on Nov. 19 on Univision from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Jon Bon Jovi honors high school football player who died

Jon Bon Jovi made an onstage gesture to honor a high school football player who died last week in New Jersey after taking a hit on the playing field.

The New Jersey rocker placed a sticker with 17-year-old Evan Murray’s number 18 on his guitar during a concert Thursday in the United Arab Emirates and posted a tribute to him online.

“I heard word about Evan and as a father and as a father of football players, my heart, my prayers and my thoughts go out to the Murray family,” Bon Jovi said in the video posted to YouTube. “To all the team, I wish you the best this season and keep it up guys, all right? Win one for Evan.”

Authorities said Murray, who played for Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington Township, died from massive internal bleeding caused by a lacerated spleen.

The funeral for the popular three-sport star and honors student was held Thursday.

Bon Jovi’s son, Jesse Bongiovi, made it onto Notre Dame’s football team as a walk-on in 2013.

Sam Smith’s 007 theme is first Bond song to top UK charts

Sam Smith’s 007 theme has gone straight to No. 1 – the first James Bond song to top the U.K. singles chart.

“Writing’s On the Wall” features in spy thriller “SPECTRE,” released later this month.

The Official Charts Company, which compiles the best-seller list, said Friday that the song moved 70,000 copies in sales and streaming in its first week, beating Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean” to the top spot.

It is Smith’s fifth No. 1 single in Britain.

Previous Bond films have featured songs by Adele, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Shirley Bassey and others. None has been a British chart-topper, although Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill” and McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” were top 10 hits.

Adele’s “Skyfall” theme won both a Grammy and an Academy Award.
