Astronaut returns to Gonzaga Prep

Astronaut and Gonzaga Prep graduate Anne McClain will visit the school Wednesday through Oct. 16.

McClain will focus on visiting math and science classes. She will give a special presentation for Catholic grade school students on Oct. 16.

Grant Grade School alumni lunch planned

Students who attended Grant Grade School are welcome to attend the 16th annual all-school alumni luncheon on Oct. 15.

For 16 years, the alumni group has collected pictures from their time at Grant. These photos can now be found online at www.grantschoolspokane.org.

The no-host luncheon is from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Timber Creek Grill Buffet, 9211 E. Montgomery Ave. Call Jim Nyborg at (509) 928-6962 with questions.

EWU students win Presidential Scholarships

Eastern Washington University recently awarded a number of local students a Presidential Scholarship, which is worth $3,000 and is awarded to students who have a 3.8 or higher high school GPA and a SAT score of 1250 or higher or an ACT score of 28 or higher.

The recipients are: Lars Benedetto, Lewis and Clark High School; William Calligan, Central Valley High School; Sean Gormley, Ferris High School; Michael Frederick, Lewis and Clark; Jonah Keith, Lewis and Clark; Annie Michaelis, Ferris; Svetlana Pankova, Rogers High School; Smoo Rena, Lewis and Clark; and Kabao Xiong, Rogers.

West Valley High raises funds for wildfire relief

After spirit days and class competitions, West Valley High School ended their Colorfest-themed homecoming week by raising $701.98 for the Wildfire Relief Organization at a football game.
