Lewis and Clark uses stifling defense, methodical offense to defeat Rogers in GSL crossover at Joe Albi

If the Lewis and Clark Tigers had an offense to match their defense, they’d be dangerous.

The Tigers’ offense moves in fits and starts. Still, they didn’t have any problem dispatching Rogers 21-3 in a Greater Spokane League crossover football game Thursday at Albi Stadium.

Sitting at 0-2 in 4A play, though, LC must find a way to muster more consistency as it heads into the final three weeks of league play.

LC (3-3) took a 14-3 lead into halftime, but the Tigers probably left at least one score on the field after Rogers (2-4) went for it on fourth-and-1 from its 22-yard line. A measurement was required and quarterback Cole Shafer came up 2 feet short.

That set up the Tigers at the 22. But on first down, quarterback Jordan Summers, scrambling to avoid a sack, flipped the ball toward Rogers’ sideline. Linebacker Brandon Madsen picked it off just before falling out of bounds, and the Pirates avoided danger.

LC broke out fast in the first quarter, scoring on its first drive. And in LC fashion, running back Adam Jacobson had the last six carries of the possession, sprinting 12 yards on a counter for the touchdown.

Rogers used nine plays to move to LC’s 17, where Michael Baseman kicked a 34-yard field goal.

The Tigers cashed in on their second possession. Aided by two pass interference penalties, LC methodically moved down field.

When they got to the red zone, it was Jacobson time. He had the final four carries, scoring from 4 yards out to extend LC’s lead to 14-3 with 9:16 to go before halftime.

Jacobson had 12 rushes for 58 yards in the first half. He had just three attempts in the second half.

LC running back Cameron Duncan added a touchdown on a 48-yard run late in the third quarter. He had a game-high 78 yards on 11 attempts.

Shafer left the game with what appeared to be an injury to his left knee early in the fourth quarter.

The game marked the return of Smith at quarterback for LC. He suffered a high ankle sprain last month.

Wide receiver Khalil Winfrey led Rogers with eight catches for 78 yards.

LC takes on University next week. Rogers opens 3A league play against Shadle Park.
