College golf: Gonzaga’s Sean Walsh ties for second place

Gonzaga senior Sean Walsh recorded his second top-five finish of the season Tuesday, tying for second place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at Milburn Golf & Country Club in Overland Park, Kansas.

Walsh shot a final-round, 3-over-par 75 to complete three rounds at 2-under 214, eight shots behind medalist Grant Bennett of Wichita State.

Bulldogs junior Ryan Gaske shot 223 to tie for 15th place, his best finish of the season.

Gonzaga tied for third place at the 12-team tournament at 888, a season low for 54 holes. The Bulldogs finished 10 shots behind champion Wichita State.


Idaho freshman Michelle Kim finished in third place, leading the Vandals to a runner-up finish at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational at Tacoma Country & Golf Club.

Kim shot a final-round, 3-under 69 to finish at 3-over 219, eight shots behind Washington’s Julianne Alvarez. Her Vandals completed three rounds at 896, 31 shots behind Washington in the 16-team field.

Gonzaga (901) placed third, guided by junior Ciera Min, who placed fifth at 221. Her teammate, freshman Jena Gao, was another shot back.

Eastern Washington (942) placed ninth, led by Marissa Borna, who tied for 40th at 235.
