Volleyball: No. 11 Stanford sweeps Washington State

Brittany Howard and Merete Lutz combined for 22 kills and Madi Bugg dished out 36 assists as No. 11 Stanford swept Washington State in a Pac-12 Conference match in Stanford, California. Scores were 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19.

Freshman McKenna Woodford had a career-high 18 kills to lead the Cougars.

The Cardinal improved to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in conference matches.

Washington State (14-7, 3-6) plays California in Berkeley, California, on Sunday.

Pirates win sixth straight

Cassandra Mendoza had 13 kills and 11 digs and Nicole Leonard added eight kills and 12 digs as Whitworth swept George Fox (5-14, 2-9) in a Northwest Conference match in Newberg, Oregon. Scores were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-16.

The Pirates’ Mallorie Schoesler added a match-high 15 digs and Maddy Dinsmore dished out a match-high 36 assists.

Whitworth (16-6, 10-2), which has won six straight, will host NWC foe Pacific next Friday.

No. 4 Washington sweeps California

Lianna Sybeldon had 10 kills and four blocks and Bailey Tanner and Katy Beals combined for 35 assists as No. 4 Washington swept California (7-13, 1-8) in a Pac-12 Conference match in Berkeley, California. Scores were 25-15, 30-28 and 25-16.

The Huskies (18-2, 8-2) host Southern California next Friday.

North Idaho beats Colorado Northwestern in five sets

Penny Gwynn had 18 kills and 17 digs and North Idaho recovered after dropping the first two sets and beat Colorado Northwestern (12-14, 3-7) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match in Rangely, Colorado. Scores were 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23 and 15-7.

Julia Silva added 16 kills and Brenna Meehan chipped in 14 for the Cardinals (8-11, 6-3).
