Spokane police officer under investigation for sexual assault

A criminal investigation is underway in an alleged sexual assault involving a sworn member of the Spokane Police Department.

The employee, who hasn’t been identified, was involved in an incident early Sunday in Spokane County, according to a Spokane police news release. “The victim was known to the (police) employee,” the release said.

The Spokane County Sheriffs Office is investigating. An internal affairs investigation will follow the criminal investigation.
