Education notebook: U-Hi hosts craft fair

The University High School Instrumental Music Program is hosting its yearly craft fair Saturday and Sunday. The fair will feature holiday gifts, clothing, jewelry, home decor and more.

The craft fair runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at 12420 E. 32nd Ave., Spokane Valley. On Saturday, there will be a Halloween Carnival for kids for $2. Olive Garden to raise school funds

On Tuesday, Olive Garden restaurants across the country will host a Spirit Night during which a portion of that night’s sales, up to $1,000, will be donated to a local high school. The Spokane location will donate to St. George’s School.

Spirit Night is 4-10 p.m. at 9780 N. Newport Highway.

Cheney band takes first place in AA division

The Cheney High School marching band recently had two successful competition weekends.

On Oct. 10, the band competed in the Pacific Northwest Marching Band Championships, which were held at Joe Albi Stadium. The group took first place in the AA Division and also won best general effect, best music, best percussion, best visual and best color guard.

On Oct. 17, the band competed in the Harvest Marching Competition, which was held at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima. Cheney took first place in the AAA-small division and also won best general effect and best color guard.
