Spokane Chiefs break out with 6-3 win over Calgary Hitmen

Adam Helewka scored twice and the Spokane Chiefs beat the Calgary Hitmen 6-3 in a Western Hockey League game Thursday night.

Helewka got his goals, one shorthanded, in the second period when the Chiefs outscored the Hitmen 4-3. Riley Whittingham, on a power play, and Curtis Miske added goals in the period.

Markson Bechtold and Nik Andersen gave the Chiefs some insurance with third-period scores.

Kailer Yamamoto had two assists for the Chiefs while goalie Tyson Verhelst made 16 saves.

The victory was just the second in the last nine games for the Chiefs (5-7-1-1), who were coming off a 6-2 loss to Medicine Hat the night before.

The six goals snapped a scoring slump the Spokane, which had scored just four goals in their previous three games.

The game was the only matchup with the Hitmen (7-7-0-1) this season.
