RED DEER, Alberta — Spokane scored three first-period goals and goaltender Tyson Verhelst stopped 45 of 46 shots as the Chiefs topped the Red Deer Rebels 3-1 in a Western Hockey League game on Friday night.

Jason Fram opened the scoring at 5:25 of the first period and Riley Whittingham made it 2-0 just more than 6 minutes later. Both goals came on power plays.
