Prescription drug collection a success

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office collected 85 pounds of unwanted medications during Saturday’s national Take Back Day. Authorities collected meds for four hours at the Hayden Albertsons store.

The event removes unwanted prescription drugs from circulation to reduce the opportunity for prescription meds to be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused and abused. Also, disposal of these medications into community water and sewer systems can create health concerns and harm the environmental.

The sheriff’s office as well as the Coeur d’Alene Police Department also have medication disposal receptacles in their lobbies.
