Stevens County sheriff: Man kills half-brother with arrow

A family fight ended Monday with a 46-year-old Chewelah man killed by an arrow shot by his half-brother, according to Stevens County Sheriff Kendle Allen.

Deputies found Brian Brodie lying unresponsive on the ground outside of the home of his half-brother at about 2:30 p.m. Monday in the small community of Addy, north of Chewelah. He had been shot in the abdomen and was bleeding.

Deputies recovered an arrow on the ground nearby and arrested Brodie’s half brother Raymond Rudd, 50. Allen said he did not know if the arrow passed through Brodie’s body or if someone had removed it.

Rudd told deputies he shot Brodie with a bow and arrow, according to Allen. The brothers’ mother was in the home during the fight.

Brodie was first taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah and then airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center where he was pronounced dead Monday evening.

Rudd is jailed on suspicion of murder.
