College baseball: Brandon Bailey strikes out 13 to lead Gonzaga past Pacific

Brandon Bailey struck out 13 over eight innings and Dustin Breshears drove in two runs Friday to lead Gonzaga to a 6-0 victory over Pacific to open a three-game West Coast Conference series at Klein Family Field in Stockton, California.

Bailey (4-1) scattered four hits and walked two. He threw 116 pitches before Justin Vernia relieved him for the ninth.

Breshears’ two-out, two-run double to right-center in the fifth staked the Bulldogs (14-9, 4-3) to a 3-0 lead. Jake Roberts singled home Breshears.

GU’s Tyler Frost added an RBI single during a two-run sixth.

Oregon State 10, Washington 1: Travis Eckert allowed three hits and no earned runs over five innings as the Beavers (18-6, 4-3) breezed past the Huskies (13-9, 4-3) to open a three-game series at Goss Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon.

Eckert (3-2) struck out nine and walked three before giving way to Bryce Fehmel, who pitched four innings for his first save.

The Beavers’ KJ Harrison and Logan Ice were a combined 5 for 8 with six runs and four RBIs. Harrison’s two-run double in the second gave OSU a 5-0 lead. Ice followed with an RBI double.
