Health officials to study impact of wastewater on shellfish

Associated Press

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Health plans to study the impact wastewater has on shellfish in Grays Harbor.

Health officials plan to add red dye to treated wastewater from April 9 to the 13th. This will allow scientists to monitor its movement and pinpoint where it comes into contact with shellfish in the harbor.

Officials say the dye will be visible in the water next Sunday and Monday. They say it’s not harmful to people, marine life or the environment.

The study is a collaboration among local stakeholders and state and federal agencies.
