Sacred Heart nurse assaulted by a patient

A nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center was assaulted Thursday by a patient.

The patient, Brian M. Stinger, 31, was suffering from hallucinations and was not responding to his medication due to alcohol withdrawal, according to court documents.

When the nurse entered the room on the fourth floor Stinger came out from behind the door and covered her mouth and nose with sanitation wipes and pinned her arms, court records say. Stinger then tried to close the door, but the nurse blocked it with her foot, the victim told police. She yelled for help 10 times before other staff arrived to assist her, according to court documents

Stinger is being held in Spokane County Jail and is accused of unlawful imprisonment and second-degree assault.
