EWU student arrested for Snapchat video shooting threat

An Eastern Washington University student was arrested Tuesday after other students reported seeing her in a Snapchat video posing with a handgun and talking about “shooting everyone up.”

Shyair S. Moore, 18, initially denied making the video in her room in Snyamncut Hall and denied knowing the person who had brought the gun into her dorm room, according to court documents. Police wrote in court documents that Moore “lied at every opportunity she could” and when she finally admitted making the video she told police that she didn’t know “why this was a big deal.”

The students who reported the video to police said they were afraid Moore would follow through on her threat, according to court documents. The video was deleted during the police investigation but students had already provided a copy to police.

Moore is facing a felony harassment charge and a charge of making a false statement to police. She was released to pre-trial monitoring after a brief court appearance Wednesday. She has no previous criminal record.
