Spokane March for Babies raises $155,000

From staff reports

The March for Babies benefit Saturday in Spokane raised $155,000 for the March of Dimes to help babies be born healthy.

About 800 residents took part in the walk, which began at Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga University.

“We’ve seen how important it is to help our babies,” said Executive Director Darah Heinemann with the March of Dimes. “It is so rewarding to be part of a community where people come together for such a great cause. This has been an incredible event, and I am so proud of what we have accomplished here together today.”

Money raised from the event funds research, awareness, education and community grants to see that all babies are born healthy.

The most urgent infant health problem in the U.S. today is premature birth. It affects nearly half a million babies each year. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities.

March for Babies was sponsored locally by Premera Blue Cross, Avista, Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, Bank of America, PAML, BNSF Railway, Inland Imaging and Global Credit Union.
