Dan Ramsay was named the Northwest Conference Coach of the Year on Tuesday after guiding the Whitworth Pirates to their first regular-season baseball title since moving up to Division III.
The Pirates also placed three players on the All-NWC first team: senior outfielder Jeremy Druffel, junior designated hitter Jordan McGowan and freshman starting pitcher Hugh Smith.
Junior second baseman Garrett Hughes and sophomore starting pitcher T.J. Orchard were named to the second team, while sophomore shortstop Joel Condreay and freshman starting pitcher Ryan Kingma received honorable mention.
The Pirates, who host Puget Sound on Saturday and Sunday in a nonconference series, are hoping for an at-large bid to the D-III NCAA tournament. The tournament field will be announced on May 16.
Pacific senior outfielder Walker Olis was named the NWC Player of the Year, while Dustin Wells of George Fox was named the NWC Pitcher of the Year.
Gonzaga freshman Domonique Garley was named the West Coast Conference women’s Singles Player of the Week.
Garley defeated Saroop Dhatt of Portland 6-1, 6-1 for her school-record 25th singles win of the season.
