Tue., Aug. 2, 2016
OGDEN, Utah — Spokane Indians third baseman Xavier Turner played a pivotal role Tuesday as the Northwest League’s All-Stars made it 2-0 against their Pioneer League counterparts.
Turner finished 3 for 3, including a solo homer in the third inning, and scored twice during an 11-5 victory at the NWL/Pioneer League All-Star Game at Lindquist Field.
The NWL also won last year’s inaugural matchup between the leagues, 6-5 in 10 innings in Spokane.
Also for the Indians, outfielder Chad Smith went 1 for 2 with a run and right-hander Tyler Ferguson pitched a perfect seventh inning, with a strikeout. Spokane’s Seth Spivey, who started at catcher, finished 0 for 2.
The NWL, trailing 4-3, scored seven runs in the fourth to take control. Vancouver’s Cavan Biggio had a two-run triple to center field and Salem-Keizer’s Gio Brusa, who won the pregame Home Run Derby, hit a two-run homer to right.
