Weekend weather: Hot weather Friday could be followed by weekend thunderstorms

Look for a hot and dry Friday, followed by cooler weekend weather that could bring rain and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid-90s on Friday, which should be the hottest day until mid-week next week. Winds are expected to pick up on Friday afternoon, but only mildly windy conditions are expected, the weather service said.

By Saturday, the weather will be cooler than normal, though “still comfortable in the 70s to lower 80s for the region,” according to the weather service’s extended outlook.

Saturday should be the warmest day of the weekend, with the temperature dropping gradually to an expected high of 77 on Monday. The low temperatures are expected around 54 degrees both Saturday and Sunday nights.

But along with the cooler temperatures there’s potential for “hit and miss” rain showers and thunderstorms every day through Tuesday. Most of that activity is predicted to take place overnight, the weather service said. The highest likelihood for overnight thunderstorms is on Tuesday, with a 40 percent chance.

Summer-like conditions should return by Wednesday, with expected highs near 84. Still, a 20 percent chance of rain showers persists through mid-week.
